What's with people and the Olympics?

I'm really starting to become annoyed by NBC AND the people watching/commenting on the Olympics.

I'm tired of hearing about the disputed ages of the Chinese gymnasts. I'm tired of hearing the "Did Micheal Phelps really win his 7th race?" crap, and most importantly, I'm absolutely freaking tired of the whole "medal count" thing.

And @ NBC telecasters:

"So Jason Lezak, how does it feel to know that you had a hand in helping Michael Phelps realize his dream-- to earn eight Olympic gold medals?" Are you freaking kidding me? And it didn't end with Lezak. You freaking asked I don't know how many different guys the same question. Why would you repeatedly insult people to their faces like that? Have you guys honestly NOT considered the fact that maybe these men were more worried about the ENTIRE team than helping Michael Phelps realize his dream? For crying out loud! Even freaking Michael Phelps has tried to shift attention from himself in order to make you ******** realize that they were swimming as a team...and not just for his benefit.

Why can't people just congratulate these athletes, from all around the world, for a job well done and let things rest? Mongolia for winning it's first medal ever? Jamaica for being so successful in track and field? Stephanie Brown Trafton for being the first U.S. woman to win gold in the discus throwing competition since 1932?

People are just amazing.

Perhaps I should just stick to the opening and closing ceremonies (as I did with the Athens Olympics) and not even bother with the actual games. I'd much rather spare myself the headache.

Just a couple more weeks until my "Threatre of Kiss" dvd is shipped out to me. I'm really looking forward to it.

I started reading 'Only the Cat Knows' by Marian Babson today. Usually, books written in first person make my stomach churn; but Ms. Babson has been doing a marvelous job of keeping my little food processor at ease. So far so good. Dante Alighieri's 'Divine Comedy' is also an excellent read.

I sincerely enjoy the Olympic games and all that they stand for, but I must also admit that about 15% of my tuning in every night can be attributed to the excessive near-nakedness of the numerous men's swim teams. Ryan Lochte...wow young man. Wow...

So it looks like I've firmly decided on Epidemiology and Biostastics as my top master's degree choices. My hope is to work on my Ph.D. at Hopkins once I complete my master's. That'd be a pretty bold move on my part, seeing as how competitive their Public Health program is, but what's life without risks and making gutsy moves? I've got to try. I mean, the worse that they could tell me is 'No', right? And I really love the prospect of becoming a full-time scientist! It's full speed ahead from here on out folks.

My sister and I are thinking about taking a trip to Venice within the next year and a half or so. I wonder if it's worth it. I mean, I've always wanted to go, but aside from that fact I don't have any other reason to go there. Florence and Milan are beginning to look better and better right now.  Perhaps we'll visit Canada soon too. Who knows?

Don't I look happy?

I haven't been this into the games since about 1996 (when I was just a pup...aaaaaaaw). What really gets me going is swimming, diving, indoor volleyball (which I usually find pretty boring), and gymnastics.

I think that the new scoring system for gymnastics is pretty *bleh* and gives several opportunities for dishing out crap scores, but that's just my opinion. I also think that both the U.S. and Chinese female gymnasts were given some pretty shitty scores for certain performances that they should have gotten excellent scores for. I'll never have 100% faith in the gymnastics judges...bunch of cheating bastards. All that aside though, China's gymnastic team is just as awesome as ever. I really felt for the little girl that fell from the uneven bars. She was doing so well before it all happened. I just hope that she can get that mistake out of her system and give us an awesome performance in the finals. The U.S. team is hanging in there too. I'm so proud of the little n00bs. All that's left is for them to get in there and kick ass in the finals.

The men's 4 X 100m Freestyle relay last night was made of so much win. Both the French team and the U.S. team were outstanding. Lezak caught up with Bernard out of the freaking blue-- and after such smug comments were made about the U.S. team too. Yeah...karma Bernard, karma. I can't stand to hear people talk crap like that for no apparent reason. If anyone on the U.S. team had made such a comment about the French team, then rest assured that I would have been cheering for France last night; and don't get me wrong, because it's not like Lezak's win was a complete and total blowout. He and Bernard were neck and neck, so it'd be pretty stupid to make it seem as though the U.S. team just left France in the dust, because they didn't. Despite the whole rilvary thing though, both teams did a marvelous job. I just hope that Bernard comes across less arrogantly next time. That guy's chalk full of unbelievable talent, so let's see some true sportsmanship and less showboating please. Thanks.

The women's indoor volleyball game with Japan was really good-- so was the men's against Venezuela. The men's game was actually quite a spectacle. The U.S. was up by two sets, then the captain sustains an injury and Venezuela takes two sets all of a sudden. Just amazing. I've never been THAT into volleyball in my entire life.

I didn't go to bed until 2 am on Saturday. I just couldn't tear myself away from the tv -___________________________________-'

This year's events have been great thus far. Now I'm ready for track and field, my favorite events in the Olympic games.
