I haven't been this into the games since about 1996 (when I was just a pup...aaaaaaaw). What really gets me going is swimming, diving, indoor volleyball (which I usually find pretty boring), and gymnastics.
I think that the new scoring system for gymnastics is pretty *bleh* and gives several opportunities for dishing out crap scores, but that's just my opinion. I also think that both the U.S. and Chinese female gymnasts were given some pretty shitty scores for certain performances that they should have gotten excellent scores for. I'll never have 100% faith in the gymnastics judges...bunch of cheating bastards. All that aside though, China's gymnastic team is just as awesome as ever. I really felt for the little girl that fell from the uneven bars. She was doing so well before it all happened. I just hope that she can get that mistake out of her system and give us an awesome performance in the finals. The U.S. team is hanging in there too. I'm so proud of the little n00bs. All that's left is for them to get in there and kick ass in the finals.
The men's 4 X 100m Freestyle relay last night was made of so much win. Both the French team and the U.S. team were outstanding. Lezak caught up with Bernard out of the freaking blue-- and after such smug comments were made about the U.S. team too. Yeah...karma Bernard, karma. I can't stand to hear people talk crap like that for no apparent reason. If anyone on the U.S. team had made such a comment about the French team, then rest assured that I would have been cheering for France last night; and don't get me wrong, because it's not like Lezak's win was a complete and total blowout. He and Bernard were neck and neck, so it'd be pretty stupid to make it seem as though the U.S. team just left France in the dust, because they didn't. Despite the whole rilvary thing though, both teams did a marvelous job. I just hope that Bernard comes across less arrogantly next time. That guy's chalk full of unbelievable talent, so let's see some true sportsmanship and less showboating please. Thanks.
The women's indoor volleyball game with Japan was really good-- so was the men's against Venezuela. The men's game was actually quite a spectacle. The U.S. was up by two sets, then the captain sustains an injury and Venezuela takes two sets all of a sudden. Just amazing. I've never been THAT into volleyball in my entire life.
I didn't go to bed until 2 am on Saturday. I just couldn't tear myself away from the tv -___________________________________-'
This year's events have been great thus far. Now I'm ready for track and field, my favorite events in the Olympic games.
